Your Legal Right to Cancel (Rescission Period)
Oregon law generally allows a 5 calendar-day rescission period after signing the first written purchase contract (or until 5 days after the developer provides a cancellation address if one wasn’t initially given). This means if you sign a timeshare agreement and soon afterward decide it’s not the right decision, you can send a written cancellation notice within that period and receive a full refund of amounts paid.
For the rescission to be effective, you must deliver your cancellation notice within the specified timeframe and according to the method outlined in your agreement. Many contracts require certified mail with return receipt so you have proof of delivery. Oregon’s rescission law and deadlines are designed to protect buyers from high-pressure sales tactics, but strict compliance with timing and procedure is required for your cancellation to be honored.
